WITH slightly shaking hands and a focused gaze while pouring milk into espresso, 18-year-old barista Tan Zhi Ying beat 15 other hopefuls and won first place in Ipoh’s first Latte Art Throwdown.

The Penang-born lad, who has been in the coffee scene for 10 months, said he did not expect to enter the finals, much less emerge as the champion of the night.
