Droves of devotees on spiritual journey to hilltop temple


THE scorching heat did little to slow down the burgeoning crowd at the Thaipusam festival on Penang island, and by evening a record-breaking 1.2 million people had made their way up to the Balathandayu-thapani Hilltop Temple.

Tourists and other visitors joined devotees, some carrying kavadis and paalkudam (milk pots), as they inched their way to the top of the hill in fulfilment of their vows.
