THIS week, we feature three free new Android apps useful for various situations.

Petrol Price Guru was recently launched to help the public get updates with the latest petrol price info; Hotel My Phone is the only peer-to-peer phone-sharing solution that lets you text and call with your own number from a friend’s smartphone with the app when you forget your phone or your battery is dead, while Calls Blacklist, is self explanatory — to keep annoying telemarketers and spammers at bay.

Petrol prices in Malaysia are always a hot topic. Developed by Centil Technology, this new app helps you to better understand local and worldwide petrol price trends.

The features on this app include immediately notifying users when Malaysian petrol prices are adjusted; showing users Malaysia petrol price trends of up to 12 months; showing users international crude oil daily prices and allowing users to discuss petrol price trends.

Hotel My Phone

Hotel My Phone app

We have all been in that situation where our mobile phones are dead and we had to borrow a friend’s phone to make a call or SMS.

You can securely check-in to a smartphone hotel (on your friend’s phone) to text and call with your own number.

You will see your own phone contacts, send/receive your text messages and make phone calls all with your regular phone number.

To benefit from this service, you need to install the app on your phone and ask your closest friends/family to do the same.

The security features include when you check-in to the app, your communications are secured and kept anonymous from the host; you can log out of a smartphone hotel at any time, which permanently closes the session, and if you forget to log out, you are automatically logged out after a four-hour period.

Calls Blacklist

Calls Blacklist app

Many of us have tonnes of phone numbers that need blocking, permanently.

This app blocks both unwanted calls and SMSes.

You can either block any number from your contacts list, calls and messages logs, or add an unwanted number manually.

When someone calls, all they hear is “your number is unavailable.” The app does its job.
