IF I had to pick a Western dish that is well-loved by everyday Malaysians, it would probably be chicken chop. Across all age groups, everyone can appreciate a good serving of this dish.
Grilled with crispy, smoky skin and tender meat on the inside, served with lashings of black pepper sauce with a side of mashed potatoes and melted cheese, and you’ve got yourself a recipe for the perfect chicken chop.
Thanks to my mum, I now know where to get my favourite meal.
Fiske Steakhouse, a restaurant located in AU2, Taman Keramat, Kuala Lumpur, serves tasty chicken chop for a price that will not burn a hole in your pocket.
It is easy to find, located along the main road behind AU2 Aeon shopping centre in Setiawangsa.
For RM14, Fiske’s Special Chicken Chop comprises grilled chicken served with a generous serving of black pepper sauce, mashed potatoes, coleslaw and fresh vegetables.
Sprinkled on top of the chicken is grated cheese which melts into the gravy, giving it a creamy and slightly peppery flavour. The warm mashed potatoes come with bits or macaroni.
There are three gravies to choose from – Black Pepper, BBQ and Mushroom. You can opt for more than one gravy and it will cost you an additional RM2 for each extra sauce.
While I was enjoying my meal, I could not help but notice the restaurant’s ambience.
The place was a little too crowded for my liking, but the Victorian-inspired decor made the experience enjoyable. It offered an ideal casual setting for friends and family to hang out after dinner.
Visitors who prefer the open air can choose to dine outside.
Personally, I would not recommend driving here as parking space is limited. An e-hailing service is preferable.
Fiske opens daily except on Mondays, from 9am to midnight.
