Tasty mix of local favourites and Western dishes

ENJOY alfresco dining in the idyllic beachside setting of The Bungalow at Lone Pine Hotel along Batu Ferringhi, Penang.

Overlooking lush gardens and the poolside, the all-day restaurant’s ala carte menu offers a tasty mix of local favourites and Western dishes.

Executive chef Aames Ang recommends starting off with the Nyonya Platter that has shrimp and chicken lor bak, otak-otak and pie tee.

For mains, he points to the Prawn Assam Pedas served with acar, rice and papadom, and the Braised Beef Short Ribs with crispy potatoes, Parisienne vegetables and cauliflower puree – as the highlights.

“Our Assam Pedas is thicker and richer in flavour. You’ll get sweet, salt, spice and sour all in one mouthful. The Short Ribs is gently braised for eight hours with herbs and spices, making it tender, flavourful and hearty,” he said.

Other notable options are Grilled Fish in Banana Leaf, Seafood Hor Fun, Curry Mee, Char Koay Teow, Lamb Curry Kapitan, Hainanese Chicken Chop, Lone Pine Fried Chicken with Gochujang spicy mayo and Roasted Duck with steamed buns.

To finish off, there is Banana Parfait with chocolate ice cream or Coconut Panna Cotta with salted coconut crumble and mixed berries compote.

“We infused these classics with tropical flavours to complement our beachside setting,” said the chef, who also suggested the signature Sago Gula Melaka as a sweet local alternative.

The ala carte menu is available daily from 11am to 10.30pm.

Take advantage of the ‘Create Your Own 3-Course Set Menu’ promo starting from RM70 which allows one to pick an appetiser or soup, local favourite or main, plus a dessert.

There are also good daily deals, such as the Monday Blues which offers a free dessert when one orders an appetiser plus main, and the Super Tuesday when spending of RM50 entitles one to a RM10 rebate on the next visit.

Wednesdays see ladies getting a free cocktail from 6pm to 8pm when dining in, while Sweet Thursdays offer a RM1 deal on selected beverages with every main ordered. Fridays are Mens’ Nights with a free half pint beer for every main ordered.

On Saturdays, The Bungalow also serves a Roast and Grill Buffet Dinner from 7pm to 10.30pm, priced at RM80 for adults, RM70 for seniors above 60, and RM40 for children aged six to 11.
