FATHERS Day is generally a low-key celebration compared to Mother’s Day. Nevertheless, the Westin Kuala Lumpur has an interesting line-up at all their outlets on June 16 to fete fathers.

The Italian Chef De Cuisine Marco De Cecco said the Europeans celebrate Fathers Day in March but some parts of the world, including Malaysia, celebrate it in June.

“I am now getting used to the idea of celebrating Fathers Day in June in Malaysia, so I am putting together some dishes on the menu, especially centred around meat and fish this Fathers Day at the hotel’s Prego restaurant,” said De Cecco.

Hailing from Italy, De Cecco said he will be serving some of his own Italian recipes such as Roasted Black Angus Prime Rib Carving.

De Cecco said most men enjoy meat-based dishes, hence there will be more of such dishes at the Fathers Day Sunday brunch at Prego.

The chef will incorporate recipes from his home while preparing the pickles and vinegar which go well with dishes such as the Raw Tuna Diced.

In addition, his Risotto with Lamb Sausage will also be up on the buffet menu.

This dish is a bit of an acquired taste. Risotto is made of rice and tastes close to our local porridge. By adding lamb sausage to the dish, there’s a strong lamb aftertaste. This dish is best enjoyed in small portions as it can be filling.

There will also be a seafood station for guests who love their cold cuts and a variety of seafood such as tuna, prawns and oysters.

The hotel’s Italian restaurant, Prego, will be open for Fathers Day Sunday brunch from 11.30am to 2.30pm. The brunch is priced at RM188 nett for food and an additional RM160 nett for free flow of red, white and Prosecco wine, draught beer, special Sunday cocktails, soft drinks and chilled juices.

Meanwhile, at the Five Sen5es Chinese restaurant, chef de cuisine Tan Tzaan Laan Liing wants diners to enjoy wholesome dishes such as Steamed Garoupa Country Style and double-boiled chicken soup.

For those who enjoy vegetables, the Sauteed Pumpkin and Seasonal Vegetable with Walnut and Morel might satisfy your taste buds.

Tan said most of his guests would bring their elderly parents for a treat at the restaurant and he prepared his dishes to cater to their needs, too.

“I will prepare more dishes that are steamed, yet flavourful and easy on the stomach for the elderly,” he said.

Five Sen5es will host the Fathers Day lunch on June 16 from 12.30pm to 2.30pm.

The lunch will be priced at RM128nett per person (minimum order for two persons) and RM1,688 for 10 persons.

On the same day, from 12.30pm to 3pm, there will be high tea at The Living Room. Guests will be treated to main dish highlights such as the Pink Pepper Macadamia Crusted Australian Sirloin Beef.
