Fish Curry with ladies fingers is among the Express Executive Lunch’s offerings.

FEELING the pinch when visiting mall eateries or hawker centres for lunch? Head to The Gurney Resort Hotel and Residences in Penang instead.

From Monday to Friday between noon and 2.30pm, it offers an Express Executive Lunch priced at a value-for-money RM12 per person.

Served at The Gurney Coffee House on Level 1, the mini buffet has five main items, a soup of the day, several types of local fruits and free flow of cordial drinks.

“Executives, office workers and residents in surrounding areas will find it a great option. Not only is it affordable, you can also dine in comfortable hotel surroundings,” said general manager S. Navin.

Considering the average price of food at restaurants in shopping malls, or how economy rice items can really add up, the Express Executive Lunch may ultimately offer better value.

Here, diners can have as many rounds as they like. Mains typically comprise rice, one chicken dish, one fish dish, an egg or tofu item, and vegetables.

Spiced Fried Chicken is one of the possible poultry dishes.

Menus rotate daily, but poultry possibilities include Spiced Fried Chicken, Thai Green Curry Chicken, Chinese-style Ginger Chicken or Chicken Curry Kapitan.

The fish might be Ikan Keli Masak Sambal, Fish Curry, Ikan Masak Asam Pedas, Sweet and Sour Fish Fillet or Deep Fried Fish with Thai Sauce.

Fried eggs, Japanese Beancurd with Mixed Vegetables, Long Beans with Kunyit, Stir Fried Mixed Vegetables with Prawns or Kailan with Squid complete the line-up.

What’s even better, diners enjoy a rebate of RM5 (from the normal price of RM6) at the hotel’s car park - essentially a flat rate of RM1.

For the weekend, there is the Sunday Brunch from 11am to 2pm. Priced at RM38 per person, it has international flavours with cereals, salads or cold cuts for starters.

Waffles, eggs or noodle items are available from action stalls. Hot items include Chicken Curry, Mexican Grilled Chicken, Lemon Butter Fish, Baked Cheese Fish, Spaghetti Bolognese and Ratatouille, to name a few.

The hotel’s Claypot Briyani Rice Set and Cucur Udang promo is still available daily until May 15, after which it will take a hiatus and return on July 1.

For other times, one can order ala carte. For more information or reservations, call 04-3707000 or visit
