CHOCAHOLICS rejoice, for chefs at Shangri-La’s Rasa Sayang Resort and Spa in Penang have conjured up an irresistible indulgence.

Velvety smooth and divinely rich, the new Salted Caramel Chocolate Mousse Cake offers bliss with every mouthful.

Visit the Rasa Deli located at the resort’s Garden Wing between 11am and 6.30pm daily to take away a slice for just RM15.

Otherwise, dig in at the comfy surrounds of the adjacent F.I.P Lounge. But do it soon, as the special creation is only available until the end of May.

Junior pastry chef Aznan Eusoff said guests will taste a level of decadence not found in regular confectionaries around town.

“Besides using premium chocolate, lots of care and love goes into making it. Each element involves many steps, which have to be done just right.

“The result is a treat that simply melts in your mouth,” added Aznan of the cake, which has a layer of hazelnut gianduja at its base.

Next is a strip of salted caramel - which seems to be everywhere nowadays, for good reason. Its creamy, buttery sweet notes does more than add novelty.

Salt enhances tastes, lets flavours pop and makes one salivate for more. It also cuts through the sweetness, preventing it from overwhelming the tongue.

Here, it serves to accentuate luxurious layers of chocolate mousse and chocolate cremeux, providing contrast and depth.

Finally, the cake is enrobed by a dark chocolate mirror glaze and topped with a white chocolate leaf and hazelnut. All that’s left to do, is indulge.

For the evening hours, F.I.P Lounge also serves a selection of alcoholic aperitifs and digestifs for guests to enjoy before or after dinner.

Aperitif is French term derived from a Latin verb meaning ‘to open’.

Essentially liquid appetisers, options are Negroni Sbagliato, Adonis and Vermouth Cobbler.

“They stimulate the appetite and prepare the palate for the delicious food that is to come,” said the lounge’s service manager Aries Boo.

Digestifs, as the term implies, are meant to aid digestion after a meal. Concoctions like Sleeping Beauty and Insomnia Killer should pave the way to a good night’s sleep.
