BE it a birthday, anniversary or any celebration for that matter, have it a la Peranakan style with Copthorne Orchid Hotel Penang’s Nyonya Buffet Dinner.

Available at Terrace Bay from 7pm to 10pm every Saturday, enjoy the special promotions lined up while indulging in authentic and vibrant flavours.

The buffet is priced at RM42 nett per adult, RM32 nett per senior citizen (Malaysian aged 55 years and above) and RM25 nett per child (aged five to 11 years).

Get a complimentary 500gm sponge cake for bookings of 10 paying guests (adults and children) and above and a 1kg sponge cake for bookings of 20 guests and above.

There are also the Buy 10 Free 1 (adult or child) and Buy 20 Free 2 (adult or child) promotions.

Groups of 30 paying guests (adults and children) and above, enjoy complimentary orange cordial.

The sumptuous buffet features two rotational menus of some 25 items each.

Appetisers consist of acar awak (pickled mixed vegetables) and kerabu tang hoon (glass noodle salad) while soup is either salted fish bone with tofu or kiam chye ark (salted vegetable and duck) depending on the menu.

Tuck heartily into mains such as joo hoo char (cuttlefish and shredded vegetables), kari ayam kapitan (Nyonya-style chicken curry), ikan gulai tumis (Nyonya-style fish curry) and telur Belanda (fried egg with tamarind gravy).

For more mouth-watering options are chicken lorbak (deep- fried chicken roll), ayam ponteh (Nyonya-style stewed chicken), sambal udang (prawns with chilli paste) and char chap chye (stir-fried mixed vegetables).

Over at the action stalls, indulge in favourites like assam laksa (piquant and sour hot noodle with fresh vegetables in a fish broth), pie tee (stir-fried mixed vegetables) and inchi kabin (Nyonya-style fried chicken).

The Nyonyas are also famous for their desserts especially Nyonya kuih such as kuih bengka ubi kayu (baked tapioca cake), kuih talam (pandan and coconut layered cake) and pulut tai-tai (glutinous rice cake with coconut jam).

There are also bubur cha-cha (coconut-based dessert with yam, taro, sweet potatoes and bananas), bee koh moey (black glutinous rice), kueh ee (glutinous rice ball), assorted jellies and puddings.
