Feast hitting all the right notes


Steamed fish with salted vegetables and bean curd is one of the main dishes at Hotel Equatorial’s Nada Lama.

HOTEL Equatorial Penang is rolling out the red carpet to welcome diners to its ‘Marhaban Ya Ramadhan’ buffet dinner at the halal-certified Nada Lama from May 17 to June 14.

With 33 years of experience, Malay cuisine chef Azami Idris has orchestrated an Iftar feast that hums a perfect symphony of flavours and textures.

Only the finest ingredients from the region’s best growers and suppliers are used.

There are three rotational menus featuring signature creations such as kibas panggang with Arabic biryani rice, murtabak durian, chilli crabs, chicken shawarma with over 10 types of condiments and refreshing coconut shake.

The cold selection itself is a feast for the senses with an extensive choice of kerabu, assorted pickles and keropok, nasi ulam, acar rampai, taukua sumbat and sotong kangkung, to name a few.

Soup is either sup ekor lembu berlada, sup kambing berempah or sup ayam lada.

The mains are equally extensive with creations like nasi hujan panas, daging bahmia, udang sambal, sotong bercili, sayur campur tomyam, daging rendang and dalhca campuran.

More hot dishes consist of black pepper sauce beef steak, steamed fish with salted vegetables and bean curd, roast lamb leg with herb pepper sauce, fish piccata, wok-fried chicken in Szechuan sauce, and fried mee mamak sotong.

To further make a bold statement are satay, seafood pasembur, roti jala, tempura, Mongolian BBQ and other mouthwatering grilled items.

More action can be found at the inside stalls serving laksa, mee rebus, dim sum, kebab, pizza, ice kacang, ice cream, cotton candy and chocolate fountain.

There are 12 types of dessert per day comprising Malay kuih, coconut pudding, lime jelly, peanut butter mousse, suji cake, cinnamon churros, turmeric cake and walnut tart.

Besides the must-have bubur lambuk (chicken/beef/seafood), there are two other bubur specialties each day. These include bubur pengat pisang, bubur cha-cha, bubur nangka and bubur pulut hitam.

Priced at RM138 nett per adult, RM69 nett per child and RM108 nett per senior citizen, the buffet is served from 6.30pm to 9.30pm daily during Ramadan.
