TEA lovers can now enjoy a cuppa and afternoon tea in an elegant and serene setting in the heart of Kuala Lumpur.
Newens Tea House in Starhill Gallery is where you can have this as well as tasty pastries, cakes, scones and sandwiches in a warm and relaxed ambience.
It is a cosy cafe that offers the quintessential British experience of English afternoon tea.
Inspired by the tea traditions around the world, Newens adds an interesting twist to the traditional indulgence by offering a wide range of teas and pastries.
A different themed afternoon tea is featured every month in Newens’ “A Journey Through Tea” series throughout the year.
Their specials include Tea with Anne Boleyn, Joyous May Afternoon Tea and Summer Holiday Afternoon Tea for April, May and June respectively.
Tea with Anne Boleyn has classic favourites featuring a combination of sweet and savoury treats.
The classic three-tiered stand comes with petite offerings of mini apple pie, English fruit cake, Eton mess, English trifle, Earl Grey macaron, shortbread cookies, mini Kew pasty, mini chicken pie and mini salmon and onion quiche.
There was only one bright green Earl Grey macaron on the tiered stand which I was unable to try. My colleague Yap Chee Hong got a taste of it and remarked that it was quite sweet.
An afternoon tea is not complete without scones and these are served with clotted cream and fruit preserves.
Free flow of black aromatic STS Tea will complete your dining experience.
Newens’ signature Original Maids of Honour Tarts proved enjoyable with its crisp and flaky texture.
The Joyous May Afternoon Tea, next month, will feature a selection of delights that will satisfy your sweet cravings.
Guests will be served apple and hazelnut cake, vanilla cupcakes, rainbow cake, open-faced salmon rose and egg and caviar sandwiches, Strawberry-flavoured Maids of Honour Tarts and scones served with clotted cream and sweet fruit preserves.
A summer-themed tea set has been planned for June to welcome the season.
The Summer Holiday Afternoon Tea experience comes with mixed berries crepes, panna cotta, cream horn, madeleine, rainbow cake, fresh strawberries dipped in chocolate and assorted sandwiches.
We were given a taste of the tasty treats on this set and I particularly enjoyed the panna cotta topped with summer fresh berries.
The creamy panna cotta offered the perfect balance of sweet and sour with its tangy berry sauce.
The black STS Tea, which is strong and aromatic, was lovely with the tarts and scones.
I could not get enough of the chocolate-covered strawberries as the chocolate’s taste complemented the fresh and sweet strawberries.
Each afternoon tea set is priced at RM150 nett for two persons, and is available from 2.30pm to 5.30pm daily.
