FERINGGI Grill, renowned as a purveyor of the finest culinary treasures in Penang, ups the ante with its new Wagyu Degustation menu.

Celebrating a paragon of meat — A5 grade beef from Japan's southwestern Kyushu island — it promises connoisseurs an ethereal indulgence.

Visit the fine dining establishment at Shangri-La's Rasa Sayang Resort and Spa soon as the promotion ends on Jan 31.

Resort director of communications Suleiman Tunku Abdul Rahman said the grill is where the creme de la creme of food is enjoyed.

"We've had promotions on Boston lobsters, caviar and truffles before but recently added several Wagyu items to the ala carte menu.

"We're offering more dishes with this limited time promotion," he said, adding that they are the only hotel in Penang to serve A5 Wagyu, the highest grade possible.

The cattle supposedly live an emperor's life by being given massages and played classical music, though many have debunked this as untrue.

Regardless, they do get special treatment from farmers, which results in intense fat marbling. That makes the meat among the most succulent in the world.

The Wagyu Degustation Set Menu priced at RM420 is a great way to savour its virtues. It opens with the Wagyu Beef Carpaccio.

Thin slivers of the meat in its purest form dovetail with green chili, truffles, pistachio, lime and herbs for a palate-thrilling burst of textures.

Another starter, Thinly Sliced Wagyu Beef, celebrates its Japanese origins with accompaniments like Tataki sauce, radish and sesame.

Taking star billing is the main of A5 Japanese Wagyu Beef Striploin with smoked eggplant and Ponzu sauce. Grilled just perfectly, it has a melt-in-your mouth buttery richness that leaves tastebuds in ecstasy.

The grill's Traditional Crepes Suzette is the dessert. Diners can add on RM150 for wine pairing — with a glass of Pinot Noir, Beaujolais, Cabernet Sauvignon and Riesling to accompany each course.

All the dishes are also available individually, alongside others such as Wagyu Beef Tartar, Kyushu Beef Satay and Wagyu Beef Slider. On the main ala carte menu, one will also find A5 Wagyu Beef Sirloin and Rib Eye.

Feringgi Grill opens from 6.30pm to 10.30pm daily. For reservations, call 04-2913120.
