The tender Whole Roasted Lamb and Arab Mandi Rice goes well with the accompanying mint sauce.

THIS Ramadan, The Eatery at Four Points by Sheraton Puchong hopes to take Malaysians back to the flavours of yesteryear with its “Selera Nostalgia” buffet dinner promotion.

For the breaking of fast, veggie lovers will take delight in whetting their appetites on the wide variety of salads available including ulam and gado-gado.

The appetisers also feature various kinds of kerabu such as Kerabu Perut (beef tripe with bean sprouts), Kerabu Ayam Panggang (roast chicken) and Kerabu Telur Goreng (spicy fried egg).

The spread will include favourite local snacks such as Roti John made with minced beef or sardine, lemang with serunding, otak-otak, keropok lekor, cucur udang and the quintessential chicken or beef satay.

A collection of stalls decorated to imitate a nostalgic kampung setting offer some of the main items in the buffet spread, such as rojak buah, yong tau foo, chicken rice, and a variety of noodles such as prawn mee and curry laksa.

My favourite item from the buffet spread was definitely the whole roasted lamb; its tender meat drizzled with the accompanying mint sauce and served with a side of Arab Mandi Rice.

The Malaysian Oxtail Soup is also another must-try item. The slightly spicy and tasty soup is constantly kept hot.

Those with a soft spot for fried foods may want to turn their attention to the nasi kandar stall, which serves up deep-fried chicken, fish roe, crab, prawns and squid, among other things.

After washing down one’s meal with a choice of iced lemon tea, sugarcane juice or sirap bandung, it’s time to satisfy the dessert stomach with a variety of local fruits, kuih and sweets.

Look forward to an assortment of lip-smacking traditional Malaysian kuih and cookies,

Pengat Nangka (jackfruit simmered in coconut milk and palm sugar) or Sago Gula Melaka would be a good refreshing choice to start with.

Diners would be spoilt for choice at the section for Malaysian kuih and cookies, which features kuih talam, kuih salat, pulut seri muka, kuih koci, kuih rempah udang, onde-onde, pineapple tarts and dodol.

Diners can start the breaking of fast with a selection of dates.

Personally, I would always save space for a nice refreshing bowl of ais kacang and cendol, which is available at one of the stalls where you get to choose your own ingredients.

The Selera Nostalgia promotion is available for dinner between 6.30pm and 10.30pm from May 27 to June 24, priced at RM140 nett per adult and RM70 nett per child.

Those who place bookings until May 29 are entitled to the early bird price of RM100 per person and stand a chance to win room stays or dining vouchers at the hotel with every purchase.

Loh Hon Chai (braised mixed vegetables) is also one of the main dishes.
