Casuarina Hotel has enhanced the traditional Yee Sang dish with the addition of fresh slices of salmon, tangy lemon juice and a piquant sauce.

THE chefs at the Casuarina Hotel @ Meru are among the very few halal-certified Chinese culinary teams in Ipoh.

They have developed a delightful array of dishes that is sure to impress diners this Chinese New Year.

There is something for everyone, with the highlight being the Chinese New Year Yee Sang promotion at the Casuarina Room, available from 7pm to 11pm from now until Feb 12.

Appropriately named ‘Opulence and Good Luck’, ‘Wealth and Fortune’, and ‘Everlasting Prosperity’, each set is priced at RM788, RM988 and RM1,188 nett respectively per table.

To welcome the Year of the Fire Rooster with your family and friends, there is the colourful platter of the traditional Yee Sang, with 13 shredded vegetables, including carrot, lettuce, cucumber, turnip, coriander and green shallots.

It is enhanced with pickled ginger, crushed peanuts and toasted sesame seeds.

Poached in oil and then fried in butter, the Butter Prawns are fragrant, crunchy and flavoursome.

The Casuarina team has also upgraded the dish by adding fresh slices of salmon, tangy lemon juice and a piquant sauce.

The Five Hot & Cold Combinations are also a delight.

Tender octopus, sweet and sour chicken with cashew nuts and juicy dim sum are just some of the titillating offerings on the platter.

Cleanse the palate with the flavoursome Braised Crabmeat Soup.

Fresh crab meat is cooked together with delicate Dry Scallops, resulting in a silky smooth broth.

Golden Crispy Chicken is also one of the highlights of the menu, with chicken wings which are crispy and crunchy on the outside but moist and juicy on the inside.

Depending on the menu, diners will get a choice of steamed seabass, grouper or pomfret.

Another seafood dish to check out is the Buttered Prawns.

The Braised Mushrooms & Gluten with Broccoli is a delightful and light dish in the midst of the heavy meal.

No Lunar New Year reunion dinner will be complete without the obligatory rice dish, in this case, the Seafood Fried Rice wrapped in Lotus Leaf.

The rice is fried with eggs, green beans and an array of seafood including shrimp and squid.

Two lovely desserts have been selected to be part of the menu.

Sweetened Snow Fungus, Gingko Nuts & Red Dates in Syrup is light, refreshing and syrupy enough to gently round up the meal.

The Chinese Pancake is buttery, dainty and crispy to nibble on and is a work of art in itself.

Each Yee Sang promotional set menu contains between nine and 10 dishes.

And every table will receive complimentary Chinese tea and 10 red packets each.

The Chinese New Year Buffet Hi-Tea and Dinner is also available from noon to 5pm and 7pm to 11pm respectively on Jan 28 and 29.

The price is RM45 nett for each adult and RM20 nett. As places are limited, diners are encouraged to make bookings ahead of time.
