HOT oxtail soup and asam pedas are both Malaysian favourites. But when it is combined into an out-of-this-world, mouth-watering Asam Pedas Oxtail Soup, nobody can resist the temptation.

The best news for those in Klang Valley is that they do not have to travel all the way to Malacca for authentic asam pedas as it is served at Royale Songket Restaurant in Grand BlueWave Hotel Shah Alam on Aug 31.

The dish is part of the restaurant’s special one-day Merdeka Day High-Tea menu to commemorate Malaysia celebrating 59 years of independence.

I fell in love with this Asam Pedas Oxtail Soup at first bite because I liked the consistency of the broth and the spices were well-balanced.

The oxtail meat was so tender that it could be described as a melt-in-the-mouth experience.

The soup had just the right amount of spiciness and sourness, and the tomatoes and lady’s fingers added more depth to the dish on the whole.

One can either pair this dish with the Nasi Putih Beras Wangi like a true Malaysian, or indulge in the dish with bread.

It is delicious either way and nobody is going to pass comment on you as they will be too busy enjoying their own bowl of Asam Pedas Oxtail Soup.

But if you wish to go healthy, try the Whole Steamed Fish with Light Soy Sauce and Ginger.

This popular Chinese dish had quite a bold, ginger taste.

The sweet and fresh taste of the fish would create a memorable experience for seafood lovers.

According to the Royale Songket Restaurant executive sous chef Firdaus Ismail, the sushi served in the Merdeka Day High-Tea is prepared by Grand BlueWave Hotel’s Japanese kitchen.

The halal-certified Royale Songket Restaurant also offers a range of appetisers such as salad, grilled vegetables, dill-marinated salmon and Sotong Kangkung Berbijan.

Customers can also indulge in Laksa Johor, Puyuh Goreng Berempah, Udang Goreng Mentega, Daging Masak Hitam Pulau Pinang, roasted leg of lamb, Chinatown yong tau foo, dim sum and Firdaus’ personal favourite – the Special Pulled Beef Burger.

If you like sweet treats, there is a variety of desserts to choose from and their hot vanilla pudding is definitely a must-try.

The high-tea buffet is priced at RM68+ per adult, RM45+ per senior citizen and RM35+ per child.

The Merdeka Day High-Tea will be served from noon to 4pm.
