Stay away from unlicensed entertainment and gambling centres, Chuah warns his men.

PENANG police chief Comm Datuk Wira Chuah Ghee Lye wants the state’s police personnel to stay clear of vice activities and improve on discipline.

He warned his men to stay away from unlicensed gambling and entertainment centres.

“We have to be credible and to take care of our image so that society will not have a negative perception of us,” he said.

He said this in his speech during the monthly police gathering at the state head-quarters in Penang Road on Wednesday,

It was reported earlier that four policemen were among the 125 people screened at an entertainment outlet in Paya Terubong during a raid by Bukit Aman’s Special Tactical Intelligence Narcotics Group and Bukit Aman Integrity and Standard Compliance Department on Aug 20.

Comm Chuah said the policemen screened at the raid had explained why they were there.

“We are waiting for the report on the disciplinary investigations,” he said.

He added that in May, Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Noor Rashid Ibrahim reminded all state police chiefs to ensure that marching training is conducted to address the discipline issue in the force.

“All OCPDs and station heads have to conduct marching training twice a month without fail to improve the discipline of our officers and personnel,” he said.

Comm Chuah presented certificates of service excellence to 108 policemen at the gathering.
