ABOUT 250 hopefuls turned up for Ola Bola The Musical’s casting call at Enfiniti Academy.
The auditions in Kota Damansara, Petaling Jaya from noon till 6pm brought together Malaysians of different races as well as foreigners.
They included several original cast members of Ola Bola the film including Luqman Hafidz, Mohamad Taufiq Hanafi and Lim Jian Wen.
Each participant had to perform a freestyle dance piece, display their singing skills followed by either a monologue or go over some lines from the movie with the judges.
The judges were Enfiniti Academy head Joanna Bessey, Enfiniti (M) Sdn Bhd creative head Chedd Eddie Yusoff as well as Ola Bola The Musical’s director Tiara Jacquelina, composer and lyricist Mia Palencia and rapper lyricist Altimet.
Tiara said she was delighted with the response to the audition.
“We expected around 100 people but it looks like there are 249 hopefuls wanting to be part of the musical.
“We are looking for 40 participants to fill 50 roles,” she said, adding that they need to know how to sing, act, dance and rap.
“We are looking for those with exceptional talent who will stand out from the rest,” added Tiara.
Fifteen-year-old Alden Dwayne Johnson, who acted as one of Muthu’s brothers in the Ola Bola film, said he wanted to try his luck.
“Ola Bola was a good film and I am sure the musical will be great too. It would be a great experience for me if I were to land a role in Ola Bola The Musical,” he said, putting his chances at 50-50.
Seventeen-year-old Muhd Shahibul Syuib Junu said he was very satisfied with his audition as he only had three days to prepare.
“I started doing theatre in 2013 so hopefully, I can land a role in Ola Bola The Musical as it would be such a great opportunity for me to showcase my talents,” he said.
Ola Bola The Musical is slated to be staged in February next year at Istana Budaya, Kuala Lumpur.
