ISKANDAR PUTERI: The Merdeka spirit is strong when a total of 32 youths and policemen from various districts in the state gathered for a motorcycle convoy around Gelang Patah to herald National Day.
The group comprising members from Persatuan Gagasan Anak Muda Johor and the Iskandar Puteri district police headquarters distributed Jalur Gemilang to the people during their stops at Gelang Patah bus station and the CIQ Tanjung Kupang futsal court.
Iskandar Puteri OCPD Asst Comm Noor Hashim Mohamad said apart from instilling the spirit of patriotism, the programme was aimed at strengthening the bond between the police and the community.
“In conjunction with our National Day, this programme will educate the public especially the youngsters on the importance of unity and harmony,” he said.
He added that the force had always supported such healthy social activities as it could encourage youths to spend their free time on beneficial programmes that would keep them away from negative influences.
“This will create a safer surrounding for the people and will encourage the youngsters to refrain from immoral activities such as Mat Rempit,” ACP Noor Hashim told a press conference after flagging off the convoy at Iskandar Puteri district police headquarters here.
During the event, the riders and some members of the public participated in a futsal tournament held at CIQ Tanjung Kupang futsal court.
“We hope to attract more residents in the Iskandar Puteri district to participate in our programmes to enable the force to get to know the local community better.
“This is an important step as police are working closely with the people, especially in channelling information about any crime in the area,” he said.
ACP Noor Hashim stressed that the police would continue to strengthen their bond with the community for a safer and better environment.
