JOHOR BARU: Pupils strutted their stuff and showed off their “green” fashion in line with the environmentally-friendly theme during the Beauty of Waste fashion show.
Primary school pupils who took part were required to design and model their creations using recyclable materials.
The fashion show showcased their creativity, with one showing off a kimono made from plastic bags, bottles and coloured paper.
The show was organised by KPJ Puteri Specialist Hospital in an effort to create awareness on the importance of saving the environment and to promote a safe workplace.
The hospital’s operations manager Mohamad Faizal Mohamed said the fashion show was a platform for the children to learn more about the cause.
“We want to encourage them to love nature, as well as promote the importance of preserving and conserving the environment for the next generation,” he said.
He added that the event was held in conjunction with its 5S campaign; sort, set in order, shines, standardized and sustain as well as the 3R slogan of reduce, reuse and recycle.
“Besides that, the programme also brings out the students’ talent and creativity, as they have to design their own outfits,” said Mohamad Faizal.
The winner in the children’s category was Qashrina Qaisara Zulkarnain, seven, from SK Infant Jesus Convent who received RM200, hamper and a certificate.
Marsya Maisarah Saiful Nizam, nine, from SK Perempuan Sultan Ibrahim won second place and received RM150, hamper and a certificate while SK Seri Melati pupil Alia Zulaikha Shamsuri, 11, was third, winning RM120, hamper and a certificate.
