KUCHING: The public should remain calm but vigilant over the rabies outbreak in the state, said the Sarawak Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA).

It said the sharp rise in reported animal bites following the outbreak did not mean that more animals were biting people, but that more people were aware of animal bites and reporting the incidents, as should be done during a rabies outbreak or where rabies were present.
