CHALLENGE yourself to a 14km hill run by signing up for the 4th Penang Hill Heritage Forest Challenge.
The event on Aug 20 will be flagged off at 7am from the Penang Botanic Gardens’ Quarry Park and end atop Penang Hill.
It is organised by the Penang Hill Corporation (PHC) in collaboration with the Penang Amateur Athletics Association, Bukit Bendera Village Development and Security Committee and the Penang Hill Residents’ Association.
Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng urged those who are fit enough to tackle the forest trail.
“The objective of this event is to promote nature conservation and heritage preservation on the hill.
“It is also to encourage hiking,” he told a recent press conference.
Lim, who is also PHC chairman, said 1,000 participants were expected for the event which is endorsed by the state.
Those who complete the run will be given a medal and a certificate. They will also be eligible for a lucky draw.
The race is divided into four categories: Female Open (18-44 years), Male Open (18-44 years), Veteran Female (45 and above) and Veteran Male (45 and above).
The top three finishers in each category will take home cash prizes of RM2,000, RM1,500 and RM1,000 respectively while finishers in fourth to eighth places in all the categories will receive RM300 each.
The entry fee is RM40 per person and participants will each receive a goodie bag, dry-fit T-shirt and one-way funicular train ticket from the Penang Hill top station to the lower station on the day itself.
Registration forms are available at the PHC office on the seventh floor of the PHC building, the Penang Island City Council information counter on Komtar’s third floor and Penang Development Corporation office in Bayan Baru.
The forms must be submitted to the PHC office.
