IPOH: Several major roads here will be closed off this weekend to accommodate two rehearsals for the Ipoh Cultural Parade 2017, which will be held on July 23.

Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Sum Chang Keong said Jalan Panglima Bukit Gantang Wahab would be closed on Saturday from 9pm to 11pm.

"For the second rehearsal on Sunday, several other roads will be also closed off in stages between 6am and noon.

"These included Jalan Sultan Iskandar, Jalan Leong Boon Swee, Jalan Sultan Yusuff, Jalan Datuk Onn Jaafar, Jalan Sultan Idris Shah and Jalan S. P. Seenivasagam," he said at a press conference on Friday.

"There will be about 90 traffic policemen to help divert and control traffic flow," he added.

The Ipoh Cultural Parade is jointly organised by the Perak Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCCI) and Tourism Perak, in conjunction with PCCCI's 110th anniversary and Visit Perak Year 2017.

The parade will involved some 2,000 participants and 150 floats from 55 contingents.

ACP Sum said the parade will begin at the Ipoh Padang, and the procession would make its way towards the Ipoh Town Hall.
"The procession would then pass through Jalan Leong Boon Swee into Little India at Jalan Sultan Yusuff.

"It will then turn into Jalan Sultan Iskandar, Jalan Datuk Onn Jaafar and Jalan Sultan Idris Shah before returning to the field," he said, adding that 25,000 people are  expected to attend the event.

"Traffic policemen will also be stationed at strategic locations, including the Jalan Raja Musa Aziz-Jalan Panglima Bukit Gantang Wahab junction and Jalan St John to divert traffic," he added.

ACP Sum said those who want to get to the Ipoh Railway Station would need to travel to Regat Tun Perak.
"There will be a passageway to the train station," he said.

"I also urge all motorists to plan their journey ahead," he added.
