MIRI: The Miri City Council (MCC) is organising a short video contest to promote tourism in the city.
Titled “Discover Miri, Uniquely Borneo”, the contest is open to all Sarawakians.
City councillor Ernest Goh, who was also standing committee for tourism development chairman, said the competition sought to encourage the young people in Miri to provide a different viewpoint of tourism in the city in addition to showcasing their talents.
“The purpose of this competition is to promote the beauty and vibrancy of Miri, including places such as Tusan, Mulu and Bario, on social media.
“Participants can focus on promoting the culture, food, handicraft and places of interest in Miri.
“The chosen videos will be used to promote Miri next year on social media and the Miri City App, which is available for free on the App Store,” said Goh.
A total of 18 prizes were up for grabs with the first prize being RM2,000, second prize RM1,000, third prize RM500 and fifteen consolation prizes of RM100.
The competition, which started on July 1, would end on Aug 30.
Videos submitted could be in any language or without any dialogue. However, videos presented in languages other than English must have English subtitles.
Participants may send in more than one video but each video submission must include a RM10 registration fee.
Participants must provide written permission for the use of copyrighted content.
All rights would be reserved by MCC as the videos would be used for future promotional purposes.
Those interested to participate in the contest may download the entry form from the MCC website or get it at the MCC office.
Entry forms must be submitted in hardcopy along with the registration fee.
Goh added that MCC councillors, staff and family members were not allowed to participate in this contest.
