Pillar obstructing the view of drivers in Puchong

Motorist on Persiaran Puchong Permai turning into Jalan Permai 1 find it a challenge to turn right because the LRT pillar is obstructing their vision.

FOR a year now, motorists travelling along Persiaran Puchong Permai in Puchong have had to be daredevils when making a right turn into Jalan Permai 1.

Their view is obscured by a LRT pillar in front of SMK Puchong Permai, opposite the Jalan Permai 1 junction.

The stretch of road in front of the school and the junction is free from speed breakers and functioning traffic lights, allowing vehicles to zoom by at high speed.

Motorists exiting Jalan Permai 1 would have to endure a risky task of cutting across the three-lane Persiaran Puchong Permai.

With nothing stopping motorists travelling at high speed, crossing Persiaran Puchong Permai can be a daunting task.

Kinrara MCA service centre chief Liew Yew Fook said motorists who want to make the turn into Jalan Permai 1 would have to inch their car out to look out for oncoming traffic as their view is blocked by the pillar.

“This can be dangerous and accidents have happened, whether big or small. On a daily basis, there is a close call or an accident.

“There have even been serious accidents at the turn and many involve motorcyclists,” he said.

Puchong Gerakan bureau chief Andy Lieng said there were close to 2,000 residents living in the condominiums and terrace houses along Jalan Permai 1.

“Motorists have complained about the dangers at this junction as they have to make the risky turn on a daily basis. Vehicles pass by very fast and the road gets busier between 4.30pm to 7pm,” he said.

A similar problem was highlighted by StarMetro in November last year.

Prasarana Malaysia Bhd installed convex mirrors at some junctions along the stretch of Persiaran Puchong Perdana.

Among the spots are the junctions near the Puchong Perdana LRT station and near the As-Salam Mosque.

Speed breakers were installed to slow down oncoming traffic from the Damansara-Puchong Highway to safeguard motorists turning into Taman Puchong Perdana.

Traffic lights were also installed in place of four speed humps along Persiaran Puchong Permai for ease of motorist cutting across from Persiaran Puchong Permai to Persiaran Prima Utama as the LRT pillar there also blocked motorists’ view.

Liew proposed that speed breakers be installed along Persiaran Puchong Permai before the junction to slow down traffic and for convex mirrors to be put in place so that motorists can get a better view of oncoming traffic.

He said the long-term solution was to install traffic lights at the junction. A non-functional traffic light currently sits in front of SMK Puchong Permai, less than 100m away from the junction.

Lieng added that the pillars should also be painted with reflective paint so that it is visible to motorists at night and signboards to direct motorist to turn right into the junction should be placed.

When contacted, a Prasarana spokesman said the road had been handed over to the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ).

“Installation of speed breakers would require approval from MPSJ and we will assist where possible.”

MPSJ also said it would look into the matter.
