MIRI: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) respects Kuching High Court decision to reinstate Dr Ting Tiong Choon of DAP as Pujut assemblyman.
SUPP secretary-general Datuk Sebastian Ting said the party would continue to work hard in serving the Pujut constituents despite the cancellation of the scheduled by-election.
“The High Court in Kuching have made its decision.
“We in the party do not know as yet the full contents of the judgement by the High Court judge.
“Nonetheless, SUPP will continue our usual practice of serving the rakyat including those living in Pujut.
“With or without an election, our party will continue to do our best to look after the welfare of all,” said Ting, who is also Piasau assemblyman.
The High Court on Saturday overturned the decision made by State Assembly Speaker Datuk Amar Awang Asfia last month to sack Dr Ting over controversies surrounding his Australian citizenship.
The Election Commission had set June 20 and July 4 as dates for nomination and balloting for Pujut. Because of the High Court’s decision, the nomination and balloting dates have been cancelled.
Ting said he continued going to the ground to visit the Pujut folk and for buka puasa with the Muslims there. He is accompanied by Miri mayor Adam Yii, who was named the SUPP candidate for the Pujut by-election.
