MOTORISTS travelling along the Sultan Abdul Aziz Roundabout in Ipoh were pleasantly surprised when a group of police officers and the Perak Police Wives and Families Association (Perkep) members handed out bubur lambuk to them.
Heading the team was Perak Police Chief Comm Datuk Hasnan Hassan and his wife Datin Zuriani Mohd Kamal, who is also the state Perkep chairman.
Also present were the various department heads within the force.
The afternoon heat did not deter the police officers and Perkep members from handing out the dish, popular during the breaking of the fast, to motorists last Thursday evening.
DCP Hasnan said the making of the bubur lambuk is an annual event jointly organised by Perkep and the police force. The dish is distributed to the police and members of the public.
He said Perkep members started preparing to make the dish at 6.30am at his official residence on Jalan Towers, and they completed the task at about 2pm.
“Some six big cauldrons were used to prepare the dish, and once completed the bubur lambuk was packed into 1,200 packets. We distribute it to all our personnel and officers as some of them who are on duty are unable to go and buy food for the the breaking of their fast in the evening ,” he told reporters at his official residence.
Zuriani said some 50 Perkep members were involved in the communal effort to prepare the dish.
“There was great cooperation from all those invloved, from the preparation of the ingredients, to the cooking and packing it,” she added.
