KUCHING: Sarawak head of state Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud said Gawai Dayak, which has been given a public holiday, can help strengthen unity between the different communities not only in Sarawak but also in peninsular Malaysia.
Therefore, he said, Gawai Dayak or Harvest Festival, must be preserved as an occasion to meet, exchange visits, interact and understand each other’s customs and traditions.
