Visitors can look forward to a capoeira demonstration at the Latin American Festival in Kuala Lumpur on May 21.

MALAYSIA’S largest celebration of Latin American culture, the Latin American Festival, returns for its ninth edition.

The festival is organised by nine of the Latin American and Caribbean Embassies (GRULAC) in Malaysia, in collaboration with Plaza Low Yat, Federal Hotels International and the Latin Ladies Association of Malaysia, and supported by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and Kuala Lumpur Tourism Bureau.

It will be held at BB Park in Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur on May 21 from 11am to 6pm.

Visitors will get to experience firsthand the rich and diverse cultures of Latin America and the Caribbean with the presence of the embassies of Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela showcasing their culture at their designated stands, offering food and beverages, promoting original handicrafts and sharing tourism information.

Latin American culture featuring colourful and entertaining traditional and contemporary performances by each country will be on display while various music, food and dance will bring Malaysians and visitors closer to Latin America.

Other activities include a lucky draw with attractive prizes, including a special prize of two round trip flight tickets to Havana, Cuba, courtesy of Turkish Airlines.

The festival has become a tradition in Kuala Lumpur, thanks to the growing interest of Malaysians in learning about the customs of these distant nations.

It is also a great opportunity for the Latin American and expatriate community living in Malaysia to get together, celebrate and share their culture with the locals.

Every year, the festival is organised to support charity programmes and organisations devoted to Malaysians in need, and this year is no different.

Proceeds from the festival will be donated to Kirtarsh, a non-profitable non-governmental organisation aimed at providing shelter and care for special and underprivileged children in Malaysia.
