Age not a barrier to pursue higher education

Mohd Rizal says time management is the recipe for his success.

JOHOR BARU: For Shariffah Zuraida Syed Zain, age did not deter her from getting a degree in Educational Management from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) here.

The headmistress of SK Sungai Danga said although she would be retiring in a few years time, she had always believed that gaining knowledge was essential.

“I want to inspire my students as well as show them that age is not a barrier to anyone who wishes to pursue their studies.

“Education is very important in our daily lives,” she said when met during UTMs 58th convocation ceremony held at its Skudai campus recently.

Shariffah, 53, said she completed her course that was fully sponsored by Aminuddin Baki Institute in three years since 2014, achieving a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.55.

Shariffah Zuraida believes in gaining knowledge.

In my opinion, the more we learn the more we know, she said.

Meanwhile, another Deans List recipient Mohd Rizal Abd Rahaman, 32, said that time management was the recipe for his success in obtaining a Degree in Computer Science (computer networks and security).

The father of one said since the beginning of the semester he had always divided his time between work, studies and family equally.

It took him four years to complete the course.
