THE PERAK Turf Club is set to be Ipoh Starwalk’s official venue sponsor for the second year in a row and this time, the club wants participants to learn about the benefits of horse riding.
Perak Turf Club General Manager Soo Lai Kwok said the club is happy to have the Star Media Group organise the walk at its premises and it will only help in the club’s bid to introduce equestrianism and riding to the public.
Soo said the main activity of the club is professional horse racing and only those above the age of 18 may enter the premises.
Due to this, the older generation are keener about horses and the exciting sport of horse racing, but the club now wants youngsters to learn about the art of horse riding.
“We want to tell people that horse riding is a very good sport and hobby. It strengthens your back, hips and thighs. It also helps in your coordination, balance and builds self-confidence too.
“The reason we are sponsoring the event is because of the objective to promote a healthy lifetsyle and at the same time promote equestrianism,” he said.
During the walk, participants, especially children, can go to the equestrian centre at the turf club to try out pony rides or to go for some lessons provided by instructors.
“The centre is open to the public from Tuesday to Friday from 7.15am to 6.30pm and until 11.30am during the weekends.
“During the walk, the centre will be open and we would like to encourage people to check out the facilities,” he said.
For the walk itself, Soo reminded participants to be there on time and not register late as it would hamper the event’s progress.
He also said that he will be joining the walk and is looking forward to a fun day with his wife.
Soo said the Perak Turf Club is also sponsoring 1,500 T-shirts for the walk.
The walk is organised by Star Media Group in collaboration with the Ipoh City Council, Perak Education Department and the Perak Athletic Association.
The official hotel for the event is Weil Hotel.
The platinum sponsor is telecommunications company YES. The Silver sponsors are Julie’s, Chek Hup, Spritzer, Sports Toto, Counterpain, F&N, Federal Oats and Sanctband.
The entry fee is RM13 per person, inclusive of GST. The public can sign up at The Star’s Ipoh office at No. 8-10, Lorong Chung Thye Phin, from 9am to 5pm (Monday to Saturday, except public holidays), or register online at http://sites.thestar.com.my/starwalk.
