MIRI: About a dozen different cultural troupes from China performed dances, classical Chinese songs in colourful costumes at the Miri Culture-Arts Festival here.
The three-hour show was organised by the Miri Musical Society and its counterpart from China.
Sarawak Assistant Tourism Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin, who launched the festival, said Miri took pride to host such an interesting event.
“I welcome more of such festivals of songs, dances and music to be held here.

“We are happy to welcome our guests and performers from China.
“The Chinese in Sarawak have deep links with the Chinese in China that go back many centuries ago,” he said.
Lee said Sarawak and China had always enjoyed very strong bilateral ties not just between governments and economy but also culturally.
“In fact, there are already marked increase in visits between Sarawakians and the Chinese for cultural-education exchanges.
“This festival today is one of the cultural cooperations that will forge stronger relationship between Sarawak and China,” he said.
Lee said Chinese cultural and arts performances were always very colourful and exciting.
Some 800 people, including Chinese community leaders, had a good time at the festival.
