Thousands of commuters turned up late for work after being caught in unusually heavy traffic along Jalan Damansara in Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI) and Sprint Highway heading towards Kuala Lumpur.
The congestion, which started about 9.30am, was mainly because of a surge vehicles heading towards the Sime Darby Convention Centre to attend the Maybank annual general meeting at 10am.
A Litrak spokesman confirmed the increase in traffic along Sprint Highway and said that it was traced to a high number of vehicles coming from the Damansara toll plaza on the New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE) heading towards Kuala Lumpur, Sri Hartamas and Jalan Dato Abu Bakar.
Jennifer Chia, 32, from Kelana Jaya was delayed an extra 30 minutes to get to her workplace in Phileo Damansara.
“I saw the standstill traffic along Sprint Highway as I exited the LDP at about 10am, so I turned on my Waze to look for alternative routes. It directed me to use the inner roads of TTDI and I managed to bypass much of the congestion,” she said.
Another motorist, G. Ragu, 27, said it took him about 45 minutes to pass through TTDI and Sprint Highway to get to his office in Bangsar.
Traffic returned to normal at about 11.30am.
