The legendary Farley ‘Jackmaster’ Funk (US), one of the original house music pioneers, makes his Malaysian debut tonight, with Marini’s on 57 resident DJs Jeff Jefferson and RJ Funk also featuring for another instalment of It’s All About House Music presents Chicago house legends. Chicago-born Farley is house music royalty, and one of the contemporaries of house legend Frankie Knuckles. Not only is Farley a DJ turned artist, producer, songwriter, director, TV presenter and radio host, he is also credited for bringing house music to the UK and Europe in the mid-1980s, giving house music its first big commercial hit with Love Can’t Turn Around, which features the late vocalist Darryl Pandy. The anthem made its mark in the UK Top 10 and gave clubbers a taste of what eventually followed, a new generation of house music fans. His other hits over the years include Jack My Body, Hey Norton, The Trax U Lost and House Nation (as House Master Boyz ft The Rude Boy of House), which also made it into the top ten of the UK charts at the time of release. KYO: Classic Chicago house sounds with Gene Farris (Cajual, US) tonight. As a global ambassador of Chicago’s classic house music sound, Gene Farris has spiritedly contributed to the evolving house and techno culture of this century. He started by spinning vinyl — acid house, disco and the classic Chicago style of his peers. In the early 1990s, he played the legendary underground warehouse parties in Chicago, and held a residency at the Power House, two experiences that solidified his career behind the decks. Visitors to Chicago can catch Gene hosting the ‘Le Freak’ event at Soundbar, a monthly at Primary and frequenting Spy Bar. Shazan Z and Axel Groove also feature tonight.

Sound Love Affair and Jiro KL present Kevin Yost (US) at Jiro. Long before electronic music became popular and the word DJ became a household term, Kevin’s focus was on the integrity of his music and spinning a rhythmic story during his performances. His outputs of unreleased tracks are close to 1,500. For Kevin, DJing is a very personal thing he shares with the people that come to hear him play and he is known for playing an all-original music set. Along with his personal approach to DJing, Kevin has put together a new live show called “Live & Improvised.” Kevin describes this as his “studio on the stage”, and, as the name suggests, all of the music is created on the spot. Future Sound Asia presents Yellow Claw tonight at KL Live, KL, along with local DJs Twinkies, JHin, DJ Flipze and Reddi Rocket featuring.
