Equipping drivers with right skills

Over 140 licensed drivers participated in the Driving Skills for Life (DSFL) programme organised by Ford and local distributor Sime Darby Auto Connexion (SDAC).

The drivers comprised members of CitiClub by CitiBank, employees of Sime Darby Bhd, fans of Ford Malaysia’s social media channel as well as the public.

They attended the six half-day training workshops conducted by a panel of safety experts at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang.

“The programme is designed to equip drivers with the skills they need to be better and safer on the road. Road safety is a serious issue and we feel it is our responsibility to help reinforce this message among Malaysian motorists,” said SDAC managing director Syed Ahmad Muzri Syed Faiz.

DSFL addresses the risks that drivers face on the road, namely dealing with unexpected situations, the dangers posed by driving when distracted such as the use of mobile phones, hazard recognition, speed management and the importance of ensuring child seats are securely fastened.

“The Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research reported that 7,152 people were killed in 521,466 road accidents last year.

“Programmes like this will help reduce road accidents in the country and that’s what we are aiming for,” said Syed Ahmad.
