WHEN a friend of Woo Yee Ching asked her why she was asking for his personal details via text when they were just sitting across from each other at the same dinner table, she suspected something was wrong.

The 50-year-old educator, who was not using her phone to message anyone at the time, said she realised she could not log into her Facebook and Messenger apps after that.
