MIRI: Miri City Council and Miri Marathon Association will organise The 2017 Miri Marathon on March 19.
The marathon route includes Jalan Kipas (Miri City Fan), Pujut, Lutong, Piasau, Krokop, Marina Bay, Brighton Road, Tanjung Lobang and Beach Republic.
City councillor Ernest Goh said that roadblocks would be set up along the race routes.
“We hope that with everyone’s cooperation, the marathon will be successfully executed for the benefit of our city,” said Goh.
Roads that will be fully closed include Tanjung Lobang downhill, Jalan Kipas and the Boulevard flyover.
Traffic cones will be placed on sections where marathon routes run against the traffic such as at the Park Roundabout.
Traffic police will takeover traffic control at every junction and roundabout. There will be about 200 road marshals on duty and a radio crew will also be on the ground.
The marathon is divided into four categories which are the 42km full marathon, 21km half-marathon, 10km speed run and 5km fun run.
About 4000 contestants from Miri, Sabah, peninsular Malaysia, Brunei, Singapore, Thailand, Japan, Kenya, Ethiopia, China and the US are expected to take part in the marathon.
A shuttle bus service will be provided on March 18 to transport registered outstation runners from Miri airport to Miri indoor stadium. The bus schedule will be released soon.
Assistant Tourism Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin, Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting and Miri mayor Adam Yii will flag off the 42km (at 2am), 21km (5am) and 10km (6am) categories respectively.
There will be a three-day race entry pack collection from March 16 to 18, starting from 11am to 5pm at Miri Indoor Stadium.
Garmin, Allianz, Hobbies Sportwear and Herbalife will be setting up booths.
There will also be registration booths for the Bomba Run, Kuching Marathon and Borneo International Marathon.
