PONTIAN: The International Trade and Industry Ministry (Miti) has allocated RM2.3bil to facilitate various programmes for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) nationwide.

Deputy Minister Datuk Ahmad Maslan said the amount would be used to conduct 57 programmes involving SMEs this year.

These programmes will be conducted through collaboration with various agencies under Miti and is set to benefit 5,936 SME traders in the country.

“Among the programmes include the one district one industry, one village, one product”, he said in a press conference after launching the entrepreneur tour 2017 at Dataran Majlis Daerah Pontian here.

A total of 137 booths were set up during the two-day programme selling food, clothing, supplement, handicraft and cosmetics, among others.

There were also booths from 26 companies conducting open interviews for over 1,000 vacancies to be filled in the state during the event.

“The one village, one product and one district, one industry is the best way to encourage more people to become entrepreneurs,” Ahmad added.

He encouraged other agencies to organise similar events to help SMEs better market their products and services.
