JOHOR BARU: Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) has become the first football club in the country to offer insurance coverage for its fans and supporters.

The three time Malaysian Super League champion has inked a deal with S&N Capital Sdn Bhd, a registered Takaful agent for Etiqa Takaful Berhad, to offer JDT-Care branded Takaful products to them.

Southern Tigers Sdn Bhd marketing director Romain Biesse said that the first product to be introduced would be a vehicle takaful to be sold online through the Southern Tigers official website where fans and supporters can renew the insurance and at the same time contribute to their club.

He said under the two-year agreement, the first product would be the vehicle insurance before offering other insurance coverage.

“Financial strength is key to the long term success of a football club and we see this collaboration with Etiqa Takaful as an opportunity to offer the best in takaful products while at the same time creating a chance for fans and supporters to actively participate and contribute to the club’s finances.

“JDT will continue to be a pioneer in the local football scene in all aspects, including new business collaborations for the benefit of the club and our fans,” Biesse told reporters at a press conference before exchanging the signed documents at Larkin Stadium here.

S&N Capital director Nasser Ismail said it was a privilege to be able to work with the club in coming out with the JDT-Care Motor Takaful.

“The club has a huge fan base including more than 1.7 million Facebook followers, making it our first choice as a partner to develop the insurance coverage specially tailored for its fans and supporters,” he said.

Meanwhile, Maybank Ageas Holdings Berhad chief executive officer Kamaludin Ahmad said the club’s fans were one of a kind.

“Their passion for the club is quite infectious,” he said, adding that as a pioneer in the online vehicle takaful insurance field, Etiqa was making it possible for fans to have a hand in building up the club.

“All they have to do is renew their vehicle insurance online via JDT Care, available on the JDT website and the profits from the transactions will be channelled back to the club, enabling it to get closer to becoming the best football club in Asia, he said, adding that there were 3.8 million Etiqa Takaful insurance holders.
