Miri police seizing an assortment of stolen items such as handphones and laptops from a family of crooks.

MIRI: Police here have arrested a family – including two small boys – suspected to be operating a syndicate specialising in burglaries in the city.

The cops have seized more than 100 items from the family following a raid at their house near the city.

The items seized included handphones, laptops, branded watches, jewellery and two motorbikes.

Three men and three women in their 30s and 40s as well as a 19-year-old girl and two boys aged 10 and 12, who were found in one house in the Pujut 1 housing estate, were arrested. Another two middle-aged men were detained at a house nearby.

Miri deputy police chief Supt Stanley Ringit said the arrests were made over the weekend in the two houses near the city centre.

He said the police also seized two broad swords and a made-in-China handcuff from the family as well as a fake police vest.

Police are investigating the possibility the group was involved in a series of house break-ins and thefts here.
