Father and sons roaring to the top

The teams are judged on the coordination between the performers and the drum beats.

THE ‘Drunken Lion in the Cave’ team of father and two sons from the Hong Teik Lion and Dragon Dance Association in Alor Setar, Kedah, beat 15 others to emerge champions for the fourth time in the KBJ Lion Dance Championship 2017 in Penang.

Cheah Kwong Leang, 46, and his sons Thao Fong, 20, and Thao Long, 17, wowed the crowd with their act of a ‘coy’ lion, which seemed to be drunk in the beginning, but later moved fiercely from stilt to stilt.
