FORMER deputy director of Bukit Aman Strategic Resources and Technology Department, Deputy Comm Sahabuddin Abd Manan is the new Kedah deputy police chief.
He is replacing outgoing Deputy Comm Datuk Abd Jalil Hassan, who has been promoted as the Malacca CPO.
DCP Sahabuddin, 51, from Kuala Terengganu, has been in the force for 26 years.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree (Electrical Engineering) from University of the Pacific, California.
A simple handing over of duties ceremony was held at the state police contingent headquarters in Jalan Stadium on Tuesday.
DCP Sahabuddin in his speech said he would be working together with state police chief Comm Datuk Asri Yusoff to eradicate the drug menace in the state.
Meanwhile, Comm Asri said they would widen the ‘One district police headquarters, one adopted village’ programme to eradicate crime cases especially drug abuse at certain hotspots.
“The programme launched last October has shown positive results in reducing drug abuse among the community.
“Drug cases at Bukit Malut in Langkawi, which is one of the adopted villages, saw a 80% reduction.
“Eradicating drug abuse here is our main focus this year,” he said.
