POS Malaysia will issue a special stamp series, titled “Golden Moments in Paralympics Rio 2016” tomorrow, with images depicting the three Paralympians who contributed to Malaysia’s first gold medals at the prestigious sporting event.
The stamp features Mohamad Ridzuan, Muhammad Ziyad Zolkefli and Abdul Latif Romly who achieved victory in the men’s 100m T36, men’s shot put F20 and men’s long jump T20 respectively.
“The special series is to honour our Malaysian athletes on their achievements during the 2016 Rio Paralympics as they stood against all odds to be the best in the international sporting arena,” said Stamp and Philately Unit head Diyana Lean Abdullah.
Diyana said 150,000 stamps of this design would be released, with each limited-edition stamp carrying the RM1 denomination.
She added that the cancellation mark in the form of Malaysian Tiger mascot would be used to commemorate the issuance to support the Harimau Malaya team, a name given to the Malaysian team during the games.
The 50mmx40mm stamp series, the last series of the year is designed slightly larger than usual to portray the three Paralympians clearly.
Avid stamp collectors can buy the First Day Cover inclusive of free brochure at 55sen each, while the folders are being sold at RM6.35 each.
Meanwhile, the complete set of the philatelic products is available to the public at RM23 each.
