PUBLIC Service Department director-general Tan Sri Mohamad Zabidi Zainal has launched his book entitled ‘Elevating the Knowledge Tradition — Public Service Transformation Premier Lecture’.
The book featuring five essays was launched in conjunction with his Premier Lecture series under the CEO Faculty Programme of the Ministry of Higher Education.
“Since I was small, I was taught to uplift knowledge and uphold it in life,” he said in his book introduction speech at Rumah Teh Bunga in Hutton Lane, Penang, on Sunday.
Mohamad Zabidi also quoted Benjamin Franklin’s words “An investment in knowledge always pays the best interest.”
“This portrays the fact that knowledge is a fundamental element in a human being.
“In fact, only with knowledge, a civilisation is able to stand proud and bring great benefits to others,” he added.
Yang di-Pertua Negri Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas was present to launch the book.
This year, Mohamad Zabidi presented lectures at five universities namely Universiti Sains Malaysia, Universiti Malaysia Perlis, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak and Universiti Malaysia Sabah.
The narrative in the book presents his vision for transformation by blending the theoretical perspective with anecdotal experience.
It also discusses the role of the university in elevating the intellectual tradition, analyses global mega trends, examines phenomena facing the Public Service and articulates the Public Service Transformation Agenda.
