MIRI: Filming for the first-ever romance movie spanning mainland China and northern Sarawak is going to start here next week.
On Nov 26, famous China stars will be coming to Miri city to begin shooting beach scenes for Blue Tears in the outskirts of the city.
And after shooting scenes in Miri, the cast and crew will fly to Mulu National Park and then visit Niah National Park to shoot scenes with a jungle setting.
The movie, which will be available online, will be the first ever film produced jointly by film producers from China and Sarawak.
Sarawak Assistant Tourism Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin said auditions have already been held to cast locals.
“This will be a tremendous boost for Sarawak in terms of showcasing our state, our people and our beautiful scenery to the people throughout China,” he said yesterday.
“The film will go a long way in making Sarawak known to China tourists.
“Sarawak is still very much unknown in China,” he said, adding that China tourists know more about Sabah compared to Sarawak.
“I hope this will change as this film can reach a wide audience,” he told Sarawak Metro.
The joint venture film is between China-Malaysia Universal Television Company (Msia) and Global Business Club International Group China.
Lee said the movie will also feature our multiracial composition and multireligious harmony.
The movie will feature famous stars from China such as Ringo Yu, who featured in Jackie Chan’s Police Story movies, and Sun Wei, who is currently in five major television dramas airing in Beijing.
Blue Tears is about a young man in China called Ling Fu Sheng who once sailed to Miri and fell in love with a pretty local native girl named Katrina.
