Senior artists capture Sarawak‘s unique features

Lee’s Tarak ‘Longhouse’ which dates back to 1960, is among the artworks on display.

Sarawak State Library and Sarawak House Arts are jointly holding an art exhibition in conjunction with the Sarawakiana Carnival 2016.

“Virtuoso: Sarawak’s Senior Artists Exhibition,” showcases the artwork of 12 of Sarawak’s renowned artists who lived from the 1920s to 1940s.

They are Chin Kee, Foo Syn Hee, Lee Hock Kia, Lam Siong Onn, Foo Syn Choon, Kueh Chai Phiaw, Raphael Scott Ahbeng, Ramsay Ong, Stephanie Eng, Magdelene Tai, Michael Lim and Chong Liew Syn.

These artists have captured the unique features of Sarawak in various media such as oil paintings, watercolour, acrylic, batik, Chinese ink, oil on canvas, acrylic on canvas and mixed media.

Among unique art pieces are Terung Dayak, Batik, Longhouses and Warriors.

The exhibition also serves as a platform to inspire budding artists as well as to preserve the values shared by the early artists from Sarawak.

The Virtuoso exhibition is held at the State Library from 10am to 6pm daily until Nov 16.

Sarawakiana Carnival is an event that creates awareness and promotes arts, culture and heritage of Sarawak folk.
