A LANDSLIP which occurred last month along Jalan Saga 29 in Taman Saga, Ampang was caused by the weight of roadside stalls on top of an underground water pipe.

Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) clarified that pressure of the two stalls on the pipe caused it to burst and resulted in minor soil erosion along the slope.

Its president, Abdul Hamid Abdul Hussain, said two of the 12 stalls, one of which had suffered considerable damage, had been demolished following the incident.

He added that a long-term relocation plan for the stalls was in the works.

“MPAJ had allocated RM3mil to relocate the 12 stalls to the foothills of Bukit Saga, which is at the end of Jalan Saga 29. The new location is better as it will not disrupt traffic.

“We have appointed consultants for the project and the tender process will happen soon,” he said, adding they hoped to start by next year.

The project is expected to take some 18 months to complete.
