SOME 750 guests at a temple dinner had a treat when Jeryl Lee Pei Ling, who became an overnight sensation when she made the finals of the ‘Sing! China’ competition, serenaded them with three songs.
Pei Ling, one of the six finalists in the competition held last week, belted out Wo Deng Dao Hua Er Ye Xie Liao (I waited until the flowers withered) by Jacky Cheung, Fight Song by Rachel Platten and Chi Bang (Wings) by JJ Lin.
Fight Song was the number belted by Pei Ling that impressed 38 of the 51 judges who voted her into one of the 12 finalist spots.
Chi Bang was the song Pei Ling rendered during the finals at the Bird’s Nest Stadium in Beijing but she failed to win.
The Penang songbird was invited to perform at the post-Nine Emperor Gods Festival dinner organised by the Padang Tembak Dou Mu Gong Jiu Wang Da Di Temple on Wednesday night at SJK (C) Shang Wu hall in Penang.
During her dinner show, Pei Ling had the rapt attention of her audience who were visibly impressed.
Many of them were seen video-taping her performance and later seeking her out for photographs and autographs.
“I am happy that I can sing for you, and I thank you for all your support,” the 16-year-old told her audience after her show.
Temple chairman Hng Chee Wey wished Pei Ling well in her future undertakings.
“We are proud to have her here at our dinner and we hope she will do well in her future undertakings pursuing her dreams,” he said.
Also present were Bukit Bendera MP Zairil Khir Johari, Penang Island City Council councillor Chris Lee, temple advisor Datuk Seri Chia Kwang Chye and Datuk Lye Siew Weng.
