The Great Eastern Bubble Dash Run 2016 had over 2,500 participants join in the fun run held at the Queensbay Mall, Penang.
The event was flagged off at 8am by Great Eastern Life Assurance (M) Bhd director and chief executive officer Datuk Koh Yaw Hui, Heart Foundation of Malaysia vice president Tan Sri Datuk Kamaruzzaman Shariff and Heart Foundation of Malaysia chairman Datuk Dr J. S. Sambhi.
Participants ran through five multi-coloured bubble stations along a 5km circuit around Queensbay Mall, and were showered with bubble foam while accompanied by the latest heart-pumping music.
The event is a joint collaboration by Great Eastern Life and Heart Foundation of Malaysia.
“We’re always looking out for different ways to promote healthy yet fun activities suitable for all age groups.
“Being the first of its kind in Malaysia, the run aims to spread awareness that fun and fitness can go hand in hand. It also seeks to cultivate participation from first time runners to inspire them to take their first step towards a healthy lifestyle,” said Koh.
“I believe we will attract more runners in years to come while meeting our objective of raising the awareness of embracing a healthy lifestyle.
“We’re happy to continue to encourage Malaysians to be more active through our health and wellness initiatives. Our intention is to demonstrate that running can be enjoyable and fun as well as an activity that fosters quality time with family and friends,” he added.
The leisure run caters to runners of all ages and fitness level; runners could complete the route at their own pace or opt to sprint to the finish line.
Finisher medals were given to all who completed the route.
“It was both exhilarating and exciting for me as I am an ardent runner, and it was great to have my friends run along with me.
“It was truly enjoyable especially with the colourful bubbles and foam which we had to go through during the run. Hope to see this run in Penang again next year,” said Lai Kar Khoon, 40.
“This was the first run we did as a family. My kids loved the bubbles – it was truly spectacular,” said Jasmine Goh, 36, from Kampung Batu Uban.
After completing their run, participants enjoyed the Healthy Heart Carnival, which featured exciting on-site offerings such as free health screenings, Live Zumba workout sessions, on-stage entertainment and exciting giveaways.
Other attractions include various food and beverage stalls, interactive games and inflatable objects for children to play with.
At the Great Eastern booth, runners were able to print out their pictures captured during the run by uploading them in Instagram with a specific hashtag.
Those who participated in the Live Great Fitness Challenge were rewarded with Starbucks gift cards when they successfully broke the record for the most reps recorded for simple exercises such as jumping jacks, lunges or squats within 1 min for each of the workout.
“The event was a great success and I would like to thank all the sponsors, participants and Great Eastern Life for initiating such a fun event for the whole family,” said Sambhi.
“I hope Malaysians will continue to support such initiatives promoting health and overall wellness for the entire family,” he added.
The upcoming run in Kuala Lumpur will take place at Dataran Merdeka on Oct 23.
Besides the 5km Bubble Dash Run, it will also feature a competitive category for seasoned runners – the newly introduced 21km and 12km Great Eastern Live Great Run.
Organised for the last five years by Great Eastern Life, the Live Great Run is in line with the company’s promise as a Life company to inspire Malaysians to turn their intentions into actions so that they can live healthier and better lives.
The comprehensive Live Great Programme is the first integrated health and wellness programme by an insurance company in the region.
It comprises five components including: Wellness Tools, Health Tips, Mobile Apps, Workshops and Events, and Exclusive Privileges.
