JOHOR BARU: Some owners are willing to spend thousands of ringgit to place their felines in a cat lounge where they are taken care of and pampered round the clock.
The three-storey cat lounge in Bandar Baru Uda here offers services like grooming, breeding, nursing as well as accommodation for pedigree cat breeds.
Pet Imadi founder and owner Ismail Mohd Ali, 56, said some people want to keep a cat but not take care of them.
There are owners who even leave their cats at the lounge for periods of up to a year.
“They can come and play with their cats whenever they are free and go home, leaving them safely in our care,” he said when met at the outlet.
The lounge is decorated with chandeliers and purple sofas, and customers can also enjoy refreshments like coffee and cake.
Ismail said there are currently about 400 cats of all breeds at the lounge such as the British Shorthair, Ragdoll, Kinkalow, Abyssinian and Scottish Fold.
“During their stay with us, the cats are placed in individual glass compartments and are given food, supplements and groomed regularly,” he said, adding that depending on the package, it could cost up to RM7,200 a year.
Ismail said owners could also put their cats up for sale at the lounge but only if they have birth certificates.
“We also breed cats for sale at the store. They are given international birth certificate, an implanted micro chip as well as a passport.”
He added that the third level of the building was a dedicated area for cat breeding.
Ismail is planning to open a new centre at Adda Heights by the end of the year, adding that he has two other branches in Shah Alam and Kuala Lumpur. The centre is open from 11am to 11pm.
