Sibu’s most inspiring rags-to-riches story

SIBU: S.K Tiong Group of Companies chief executive officer Tan Sri Tiong Su Kuok’s rags-to-riches story has inspired many Sarawakians wanting to soar to greater heights.

The business tycoon is also the honorary life president of seven organisations namely World Federation of Foochow Association, Federation of Foochow Association of Malaysia, Sarawak and Sibu, Federation of Malaysia Hawkers Association, Federation of Zhan Clan Associations Malaysia and Sarawak, Associated Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Sarawak annd Sibu Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

State Local Government Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian said Tiong had proven anyone was able to succeed through hardwork and determination.

Dr Sim was speaking at the launch of Tiong’s Chinese-language biography, the presentation of the Education Incentive Awards 2016 and the “Bridge of Love” Education Help Fund 2016” banquet dinner. Tiong celebrated his birthday at the same function.

Dr Sim said: “The biography not only provides information on Tiong’s family but also on his achievements in the business world.”

He added that despite his achievements, Tiong was a down-to-earth and dedicated to contributing to society.

Tiong in his acceptance speech, attributed his success to support from all the people around him.

“You have been the pillar of my strength. For the next three months, I do not have to take health supplement to stay vibrant,” he said jokingly.

Among some 1,000 guests comprising relatives, friends, business associates, was SPDP president Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing.
